Padel continues to organise itself as a competitive sport at the Belgian level. The interclubs are ending, and with the spring arriving, an improved circuit of tournaments at the best national level is set up. You will find a first list below with a Kick-off this week at Smashing Club Le Roeulx, and then go to RTC Liège.
The Belgian Padel Tour already exists since 2016, but it is really growing and taking shape this year, with more and better regulated competitions. It now brings together under the same banner the clubs that wish to offer a high level show, allowing our high level players to show what they are capable of. The best players in Belgium will thus be more often brought to measure themselves at quality meetings,” federal officials say. Players and candidates for the national team will be able to assert themselves there, in view of the world team championship which will be held in Paraguay at the end of October, but the circuit will also see the regional elite face off against the Belgian top, which can only be enriching.
One, two or three stars
In addition to the increase in the number of tournaments, the great novelty 2018 is the distribution of the various organizations on three levels according to the prize money which will be proposed there, prize money normally covered by the registration fee (20€/player) but probably reinforced, according to the place, by the support of local sponsors. Ideally, the minimum threshold to reach to make a tournament profitable a star is 16 pairs (11 in checkers), 25 (17) for a two star, and 33 (22) if it is a three star, with for the winner a reward ranging in principle between 110 euros (80 for checkers) and 220 (160) per player according to the number of stars. The same goes for the points awarded, which range from 1000 to 2000 according to the same “star” criteria.
The Masters at the beginning of December
In addition to the points counted for the ranking of players, a special ranking will be established as the tournaments progress, it will ultimately designate the eight pairs that will participate in the Masters scheduled (we do not yet know where) at the beginning of December, players accumulating each participation points of the type “criterium” called BPT points. The table of organisations published below is still provisional, we know in particular that among the Flemish clubs affiliated to Padel Belgium several should further enrich it in the weeks to come.
A web page (www.belgianpadeltour.com) is updated on a regular basis, with the agenda and complete rules, for the launch of this 2018 edition. The updated calendar is also available at www.setteo.com, where players can register and view their rankings.
